They key to healthy hair is a cleansed scalp. Massage a small amount into a wet scalp, adding water as necessary to really work up lather. For a few minutes, use fingertips to really scrub the scalp to clear out residue so that pores are free to respire and inspire hair growth. Shampoo is for the scalp, and the process of rinsing the shampoo from the scalp is sufficient to cleanse the hair. Conditioner cares for the hair, so follow with Calendula Comfort Conditioner or Honey Myrtle Deep Conditioning Mask for soft and shiny, honey-scented hair. Many people find that they can wash their hair less often with this shampoo and hair-care strategy.

Body Wash Directions

Calendula Comfort is lovely as a hand and bodywash too. Pour a little into palms for a sudsy wash. Or, have a blast in a bubble bath.

To use more sparingly and to create a countertop hand soap (it's a really good way to dispense suds when shampooing too), fill a foaming pump type bottle with half Calendula Care and half water and shake to combine.

Color Treated Hair

Similar to healthy skin, healthy hair is coated in natural oils that protect each strand and keep the hair elastic, smooth, and shiny. The scalp produces these oils in exactly the right amount to keep the hair lubricated. Synthetic hair products, even those marketed for treated and colored hair, strip away these oils, can irritate the scalp, leave residue that stifles the scalp, and fret hair follicles. Some of the harsh chemicals in these products, such as sodium lauryl sulfate and oleyl betaine, can cause hair color to fade fast. Instead of the full, shiny, smooth locks pictured on the bottle the result is often dull, faded, and lifeless hair.

• Decyl Glucoside - This gentle, biodegradable plant-derived saponification enhances the lather for a sudsy cleanse. It has a similar composition to the saponins in plant glycosides obtained from soap bark (quillaya) and yucca root. Its light, emollient properties are soothing to hair shafts, scalp, and skin.
• Coco-Protein (Cocos nucifera) - Coco-protein also gives this shampoo and body wash its purely botanical suds. Coco-protein is derived from the sugars, proteins, and fatty acids of organic, virgin coconut oil. It is a non-ionic saponifier that is free from ethylene oxide and preservatives. It has excellent dermatological compatibility and also has clean environmental impact, as it is highly biodegradable. Coco-protein is unrelated to varieties of sulfates or sulfides, which are best avoided.
